Outdoor sun loungers for UAE balconies, pools and gardens: materials, sizes and care

From October to April, a sun lounger is one of the most used pieces of outdoor furniture in the UAE. The rest of the year it has to survive strong sun, humidity and dust. This guide covers the three lounger materials we sell, the measurements that matter for balconies, pools and gardens, and how to look after each type. It compares four ranges from our sun loungers collection: Phuket, Marbella, Valencia and Java.

Sun lounger materials compared

Wood (eucalyptus)

Wood gives the warmest, most natural look. The Phuket Wooden Sun Lounger is made from FSC® certified eucalyptus. Wood asks for a little more care than plastic: oil it from time to time and keep it shaded or covered during the hottest months.

Polypropylene with fiberglass

Polypropylene reinforced with fiberglass is stiff, does not rust and wipes clean with water, which makes it a practical choice beside a pool. The Marbella Sun Lounger uses this material and comes in white or beige.

Textilene

Textilene is a woven mesh fabric stretched over the frame. Air passes through it and water drains away, so it dries quickly after a swim and you can lie on it without a cushion. The Java Fiberglass Sun Lounger with Textilene Sling Seat has a textilene bed and comes in two colourways, white and beige.

Which lounger for which space?

Balconies

Measure before you buy. A full-length lounger is about 2 metres long, so you need at least that plus space to walk past. At 175.9 × 66.1 cm, the Valencia is the shortest and narrowest of the four and the easiest to fit on an apartment balcony. Pools

Beside a pool, choose something that does not mind water and is easy to move. Polypropylene and textilene are both good here: the Marbella rinses clean, and the Java's mesh dries fast. Add the Ibiza Sun Lounger Side Table (51 × 51 × 40 cm, AED 119, arriving soon) for drinks, sunscreen and a phone.

Gardens

In a garden you usually have room for a wider lounger and a pair looks better than one. The Phuket is 87.5 cm wide, and the cushion version has rear wheels and a pull-out side tray, so you can follow the shade around the lawn. With or without a cushion?

A cushion adds comfort on a hard surface such as wood or polypropylene, and it stays cooler to the touch than bare plastic in the sun. The trade-off is care: store cushions indoors or in a storage box when you are not using them, especially in summer and when rain is forecast. Textilene loungers are comfortable without a cushion, which makes them the lowest-maintenance option.

How to care for a sun lounger in the UAE

• Rinse off dust and sand every week or two with water and a soft cloth. Use mild soap for marks.
• Rinse after pool use. Chlorine and salt water leave residue on any material.
• Use shade or a cover in summer. Every material lasts longer out of direct midday sun.
• Oil wooden loungers occasionally to keep the colour, and check the fittings once a season.
• Store cushions dry. Bring them inside when they are not in use.
• Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive pads, which damage finishes and fabric.

Delivery, assembly and returns

Sun loungers are delivered free and assembled free of charge. Orders placed before 3 PM are delivered the next day in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman, and in 2 to 3 days elsewhere in the UAE. You can pay by card, Tabby, Tamara or cash on delivery, and return an unused item in its original packaging within 7 days with free pickup.

What is the best sun lounger material for the UAE?

It depends on where it will be used. Polypropylene with fiberglass and textilene are the easiest to maintain beside a pool because they do not rust and rinse clean. Eucalyptus wood has a warmer, natural look and needs occasional oiling.

How much space does a sun lounger need?

Most full-length loungers are close to 2 metres long and 66 to 88 cm wide. Allow extra space at one side to get on and off, and room behind the backrest if it reclines.

Can a sun lounger stay outside all year in the UAE?

Loungers made for outdoor use can stay outside, but shade, a cover in summer and regular rinsing will noticeably extend their life. Cushions should be stored indoors when not in use.

Do sun loungers come assembled?

Delivery and assembly are free for sun loungers, so you do not need to assemble them yourself.
