Folding Table Sizes Guide: How Many People Fit a 4, 5, 6 or 8 ft Table?
Planning a family gathering, a majlis evening, a birthday or a corporate event? The first question is always the same: how many tables do I need? This guide shows how many people sit comfortably at each folding table size, how much room to leave around it, and which of the folding tables we stock in our Dubai warehouse fits each job.
Quick answer: seats per folding table
Allow about 60 cm of table edge per person for a seated meal. On that basis a 4 ft (120 cm) table seats 4, a 5 ft (152 cm) table seats 6, a 6 ft (180 cm) table seats 6 to 8 and an 8 ft (240 cm) table seats 8 to 10. Round tables seat 4 to 6 (4 ft), 6 to 8 (5 ft) and 8 to 10 (6 ft).

Rectangular or round?
Rectangular tables use space best. Put two or three end to end and you have one long table for a family lunch, a buffet line or a conference. They also fit along a wall or a balcony railing. Round tables are more sociable: everyone can see and talk to everyone, which is why weddings, iftars and dinners usually use 5 ft or 6 ft rounds.
How many tables for my guests?
- 20 guests: three 6 ft tables (or two 8 ft tables), or three 5 ft round tables.
- 40 guests: five 8 ft tables, or five 6 ft round tables.
- Buffet: add one 6 ft or 8 ft table for every 30 to 40 guests for food, plus one cocktail table near the entrance.
How much space to leave around the table
Leave at least 75 cm between the table edge and a wall so a chair can be pulled out, and about 120 cm between tables so people can walk behind seated guests. For a 6 ft round table that means a circle of about 3.3 metres. In a small majlis or on a balcony, a 4 ft rectangular or an 86 cm square table leaves more walking space than a round one.
Which material?
All our centrefold tables have a thick HDPE plastic top (about 37 to 38 mm) on a powder-coated steel frame. The white tops are the classic event look and wipe clean easily. The black woodgrain and rattan-style tops look more like home furniture, so they suit a garden, a roof terrace or a home office. The tops are UV and weather resistant, so they can be used outdoors; fold them and store them in the shade when you do not need them.
Strength and weight
The 180 cm centrefold tables hold up to 150 kg spread over the top. Weights range from about 7 kg for the 4 ft table to 14.5 kg for the 8 ft table and 15 kg for the 5 ft round table, so one person can carry most of them by the built-in handle. There is nothing to assemble: unfold the table, lock the legs and it is ready.
Chairs and benches to match
The lightweight folding chair (AED 79, 3 kg, seat height 45 cm) folds flat and stacks against a wall. For a more furnished look, the woodgrain and rattan-style folding chairs are AED 109.
